What happens when you mix delicious local ingredients with science and technology? An experience unlike any other! Global Gourmet catered the after party for a major annual developer’s conference at Yerba Buena Gardens last week and it was definitely a sight to see.
The developers’ conference attracts over 5,000 attendees a year who come from all corners of the world and this was the second year in a row that Global Gourmet was asked to cater the popular After Conference event. The goal of this party was to give a true San Francisco food experience to the thousands of out-of-town attendees by combining gastronomy with technology. We took local and fresh ingredients and gave them a tasty and surprising twist worthy of a science fair medal.
The creative and technology inspired menu was specially designed to feature and highlight local restaurants and purveyors. We partnered with such great companies as 4505 Meats, Cowgirl Creamery, The ACME Bread Company and Roli Roti Gourmet Rotisserie which provided delicious ingredients that were served up in dishes like Beer-Braised Cheddar Beer Brats, Bacon-Studded Hot Dogs, German Potato Salad, Farm-to-Table Bruschetta, and Herbed Rotisserie Porchetta Sandwiches. Also included in the tasty mix were Togarashi-Marinated Pork Ramen, Vegetable and Tofu Ramen, Chicken Tinga and Beef Barbacoa.
In partnership with Mission Chinese Food, we also served Chongqing Chicken Wings with Smashed Cucumbers. This was a special dish because for every portion served, Global Gourmet donated $1.00 to ZeroFoodprint, which enables restaurants to participate in the fight against climate change and to raise consumer awareness about the carbon footprint of the food system. Because of this, everything, and we mean EVERYTHING, about this dish was carbon neutral, from sourcing to production to service. Mission Chinese Food’s Executive Chef Anthony Myint was on hand and helped prepare this amazing dish with us.
For dessert, the attendees were taken on a molecular gastronomic adventure with Smitten Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream, Carbonated Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries garnished with Pop-Rocks and Fresh Strawberries, carbonated in-house with dry ice. Talk about a tasty science experiment!
In addition, Global Gourmet featured a Beer Garden which served up refreshing craft beers from local Bay Area breweries including Drake’s Brewery, Magnolia Brewery, and Bear Republic, to name a few. And for the wine enthusiasts, we provided a special Oakland to Sonoma Wine Tasting where attendees could sample the sweet and rich tastes of wines from Oakland’s Dashe Cellar, Urban Legend Cellars, Jeff Cohn Cellars and Sonoma’s iconic Gundlach Bundshu.
Who knew that technology and gastronomy went so well together?
