Sumona & Jerome

Sumona and Jerome are hands down one of the coolest and sweetest couples we have had the pleasure of working with. Our initial phone call with them was about how they wanted their wedding to merge four cultures of food and allow guests to mingle and get to know each other. They lived in Washington DC at the time and were making their move here to the Bay Area. Both have such a calm, put together demeanor and are highly educated and well-traveled. I was in awe during our entire tasting listening to the places they’ve traveled and the foods they’ve eaten, let alone the fact that both are visually stunning and genuinely kind.

They selected the Piedmont Community Hall with its beautiful outdoor ceremony grounds, historic tea garden, outdoor dining area and indoor reception space. After their ceremony, 97 guests and a “tamale eating baby,” went to the Japanese Tea Garden where they noshed on “Croque Madames,” Figs Stuffed with Rouge Creamy Blue Cheese and Strawberry, Burrata and Thai Basil Caprese while listening to a friend sing.

Guests were then invited to open seating into the courtyard where they were greeted with a Salad of Sweet Gem Lettuces and Peaches and then allowed to roam the three food stations (many went back for thirds!) They included a Wine Country Station with Cabernet Braised Boneless Shortrib, Delhi Delights with Channa Masala and a Taquito Bar loaded with a variety of tacos including the most popular Grilled Mahi and Yucatan-Style Tamales.

As dinner wrapped up, a Belgian Waffle Truck drove up and began emitting the sweet smell of waffles and honey for guests to nosh on, along with the famous San Francisco Creme Brulee Cart.

I’m a sucker for all wedding stationary and if there is a program or cocktail napkin left over I love to collect them. I was reading Sumona and Jerome’s program, and for the first time noticed that they thanked me and Jennifer, our Wedding Production Manager, in their program! It was the most thoughtful thing I have ever seen – we were right under thanking their family and friends! Sweetest couple…check.

A month after their wedding they sent us these beautiful photos from Jesse Leake along with a note from their honeymoon that said, “We hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, saw a jaguar in the Amazon, ate guinea pig and alpaca, surfed one of the world’s longest breaks, and learned about human sacrifice among the pre-Inca cultures (who knew?!).” Coolest couple…check.
